Thrive Coffee Devotional

“These are unprecedented hard times” . . . COVID challenges . . . racial upheaval . . . political divisiveness . . . social injustice . . . economic disruption . . . evolving “new norms” at work, church, in relationships, and our society at large!

As a Christian, a dedicated Christ-follower . . . or just someone exploring your faith proposition,

Are you a Right-Maker?

 I.   Context

  • The biblical mandate for Life Change! Romans 12:2 . . . “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

  • Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard . . .  “Life is understood backward, but lived forward.” . . . the rear-view mirror of life!

  • Oswald Chambers (My Utmost for His Highest) . . . “It’s a dangerous thing to refuse to continue learning and knowing more. If you don’t cut the lines that tie you to the dock, God will use a storm to sever those lines and send you out to sea! Put everything in your life on the great swelling tide of God’s purpose, and your eyes . . .  [and mind!] . . . will be opened.”

II. Three Right-Maker Questions

  1. Where does our identity as a Right-Maker come from?

  2. What are our Right-Making responsibilities?

  3. How does Right-Making play out in my daily life?

III. Scripture for Right-Making

  • As a Right-Maker, does your life bring honor and glory to Christ? Are you living for a greater purpose than your own comfort?  “Are people drinking deeply from the well of your Right-Making?”

  •  Micah 6:8 : “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good . . . [and therefore, what is right!]. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

  •  1 Timothy 6:18-19: “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way . . . they will lay up treasure for the coming age. . .”

  •  James 2:14-22: “What good is it my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no good works . . . Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes or daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well, keep warm and be well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, not accompanied with action, is dead! . . .

  •  Matthew 22:37-40 : “Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
